Acne Myths: Top Natural Treatments
There are many myths out there about acne, its causes, and its treatments. The question is how do you know which ones are true and which ones are false?
Here are a few natural acne treatments, that have been proven as just a myth or a proper remedy.
Drinking lots of water: While beneficial to anyone’s health, drinking a lot of water is not necessarily an active way of treating acne. It does increase your body’s moisture levels, but its benefits are more for helping your body’s general well being instead correcting some specific skin blemishes.
Green tea: Green tea has become a trendy cure for almost every ailment possible. It has been proven to reduce cancer risk, lower diabetes threat, and boost mental alertness; it has not, however, been specifically proven to clear up your skin.
Strawberries: Strawberries have alpha hydroxyl acid that helps get rid of dead skin cells which can help prevent acne. However, strawberries are just a fruit. It may have the ability to help clear skin, but the amounts you would have to consume make them an impractical means of naturally treating acne.
Tea Tree Oil: Tea tree oil is a popular home remedy that kills the bacteria that can cause acne. Unfortunately, the oil can be too strong for some skin types, thus causing dryness, redness, itchiness, and general irritation which can inflame acne.
It seems that many acne treatments have their positive and their negative effects. Some are just a slight help while others can work miracles. The success of various treatments seems to depend entirely on the individual’s skin type. Reactions to the different remedies vary greatly. The best advice is avoid the obvious myths, do some research, and try the home remedies and natural treatments that you find to best suit your needs.
